[07/05/2018 12:40]

RIYADH-SABA
The Arab Coalition backing Yemen's government has announced on Sunday that the Saudi air defenses intercepted two ballistic missiles fired by Iranian-backed Houthi militia toward the kingdom's territories.

The spokesman for the Coalition forces Col. Turki al-Maliki said in a press statement on Sunday that: "The air defense forces of the Arab Coalition spotted two missiles launched by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia in north Amran province toward the territories of the Kingdom of (Saudi Arabia "(.

He said that the militia fired them to deliberately target civilian and populated areas. They rockets were heading toward Najran city in Saudi Arabia.

He said that Saudi Royal Air Defense Forces managed to intercept them and only "the fragments of the intercepted missiles scattered in the residential areas, and no injuries were reported until the time of preparing this statement".

He said that "this hostile action by the Houthi militia proves the continued involvement of the Iranian regime in supporting the Houthi armed group with qualitative capabilities in a clear and explicit defiance of the UN resolution no. 2216 and resolution no. 2231."

He said that these violations threaten the Saudi, regional and international securities, and that "firing ballistic missiles at populated cities and villages is a violation of the international humanitarian law."
