Info. Minister calls on Int'l community to pressure the militia to release abducted journalists
[03/05/2018 01:35]

VIENA-SABA

Minister of Information Muamer al-Iryani called on International community to mount pressure on the Houthi putschist militia to set abducted and forced disappeared journalists free, stop violations and harassments against freedom of media and expression.

Al-Iryani's statement came during his talks with Austrian News Agency's officials and journalists. The meeting coincided with the International Day for Press Freedom.

The Info. Minister along with the Saudi ambassador to our country Mohammed Sa'eed al-Jaber are on an official trip to Austria.

" While world celebrates the International Day of Press Freedom, 14 Yemeni journalists have been locked in the militia's jails for above three years. We haven't seen any international effort made to press for releasing illegally detained Yemeni journalists", al-Iryani said.

Al-Iryani cited a list of reports issued by national and international NGOs about the militia's crackdown campaign against the Yemeni media outlets and journalists.

The Info. Minister invited Austrian media organizations to come to Yemen and visit the government-held regions so as to get first-hand facts about the re-normalization process the government has embarked on.

For his part, the Saudi ambassador to Yemen said:" The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) won't save effort to contribute toward re-establishing security and stability in Yemen that shares much of history and interests with the KSA".
