GENEVA -SABA
Kuwait Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah pledged on Tuesday a Kuwaiti grant of 250 million dollars to Yemen through the Kuwait Fund for Economic Development and international humanitarian organizations in order to help meet Yemen's pressing humanitarian needs this year.
He made the pledge in a UN donor conference for people affected by war in Yemen.
Al-Jarallah said, "As we become only weeks away from the holy month of Ramadan, the humanitarian misery multiplies and the need for an urgent aid increases … we hope this amount will contribute to wipe away the tears of orphaned children, help the bereaved mothers and alleviate the pain of a people displaced by the war."
He pointed out that the State of Kuwait has been exercising a political role to broker a resolution to the Yemeni conflict by "hosting Yemen peace talks for a hundred days" in 2016.
He said: "Kuwait reiterates to the Conference that the only way to resolve this crisis is a political process based on adherence to the resolutions of United Nations according to the three terms of reference; the GCC Initiative, its executive mechanisms, the outcomes of the National Dialogue and the UN Security Council's resolution (2216)."
