The Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, on Tuesday condemned the Houthi killing of a journalist in Taiz on 22 January.
Mohammed al-Qadasi a correspondent of Belqees TV channel was killed with other civilians when the Houthi rebel militia fired what it called "a ballistic missile" on a security facility where a parade was held for graduating police cadets in al-Nashama in the central province of Taiz.
“I condemn the killing of Mohammad al-Qadasi,” said Azoulay. “Journalists working in Yemen are taking tremendous risks to perform their professional duties, often providing civilians with information that is vital for their survival. I therefore call on all parties to ensure the safety of reporters and respect their civilian status in line with the Geneva Conventions," she said.
