Maritime Affairs Authority Discusses with European Nordic Support Foundation Enhancing Maritime Security
The Chief Executive of the General Maritime Affairs Authority Faheem Saif met Monday with the Regional Director of the International Support Foundation for the Nordic Countries Qasim Douali. The two parties discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in the fields of maritime security, pollution control and enhancing the Authority’s technical capacities.

Yemen welcome Spain's desire to resume work in fishery sector

Minister of Fishery Wealth Fahad Qafaian said :" We started work on a proposal for developing traditional fishing business infrastructure in Yemen's seashores, as preliminary step forward to resume work under agreements Yemen entered into with Spain, that is to be in coordination with the Foreign Ministry and Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation".

Qafaian told the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) the Ministry of Fishery Wealth had learned from Yemeni embassy in Madrid about the Spanish government's desire to resume work with Yemen under bilateral agreement to support fishery sector." Yemen replied positively and announced willingness to resume work under the agreement in the government-held region", said Qafaian.

The agreement included to conduct study establishing three fishery seaports in Soctara, Bi'er Ali in Shabwah and Khokhah in Hodeida, to activate aspects of cooperation, interexchange of expertise and researching information in fishery sector, offering scholarships and training courses for Yemeni technicians in fishery, exchange visits by fishery senior officials in the two countries and encourage businessmen and investors.

The minister stated that the Ministry distributed 500 boats and motors to fishermen who lost their boats due to Chaba cyclone. Some 400 more of boats and motors would be distributed to the fishermen in Abyan, Shabwah, Taiz and Al-Maharah provinces.

Qafiaian also said:" Fishery projects would be carried out in the beginning of 2018 included waves breakers in the provinces of Abyan, Socotra and Al-Maharah, Ice factory in Socotra and rehabilitate three unloading centers in Al-Maharah".
