AMMAN – SABA
Yemen’s Minister of Water and Environment, Eng. Tawfiq al-Sharjabi discussed Wednesday with EU Ambassador to Yemen Patrick Simonnet in Amman, Jordan strengthening cooperation in water, environmental protection and climate change.
The meeting reviewed EU-funded projects implemented by international organizations, including FAO, UNDP and UNESCO, with the ministry coordinating the integrated water resources management component.
Al-Sharjabi highlighted key priorities, including water security, improved water and sanitation services, climate information and early warning systems, biodiversity protection, and the restoration of degraded ecosystems.
He stressed the importance of aligning future EU funding with Yemen’s national priorities and involving national institutions in project planning from the outset, particularly in line with the country’s updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC 3.0).
The minister also affirmed that ongoing development projects remain unaffected by the current escalation by the Houthi group, emphasizing the need for continued international support to strengthen national institutions and advance sustainable development.
