Yemen’s Ambassador to Libya, Dr. Hassan al-Hard, handed Libyan Deputy Prime Minister Salem al-Zadma a copy of a protest note addressed to the Libyan Foreign Ministry over remarks by Libya’s Mufti, Sheikh Sadiq al-Gharyani, on the war in Yemen on September 16.

The Yemeni government said the remarks presented an inaccurate and distorted account of the situation and reiterated its position on the Yemen conflict and the Iranian-backed Houthi militia.

The two officials also discussed developments in Yemen, the humanitarian impact of the Houthis’ latest escalation along the western coast, and alleged coordination between the Houthis and armed groups in Africa, particularly Somalia’s al-Shabaab, which Yemen said could increase security threats in the Red Sea.

Al-Hard said the escalation had displaced more than 140,000 people, particularly in Taiz and Hudaydah, stressing the need for urgent shelter, food and medical assistance.
