The Republic of Yemen participated Tuesday in a high-level meeting marking the 65th anniversary of the first Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement, held in the Serbian capital, Belgrade.

In Yemen’s statement to the meeting, Yemen’s non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of Serbia Asmahan al-Tawqi reaffirmed Yemen’s commitment to the principles of the Non-Aligned Movement, which are founded on respect for state sovereignty and independence, dialogue and adherence to international law.

She said the people of Yemen are paying a heavy price as a result of the coup carried out by the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist militia.

She noted that the group’s escalation inside Yemen, as well as its attacks in the Red Sea and neighboring countries, calls for a sustainable approach to addressing the root causes of these threats, which constitute an extension of the coup and its consequences, including the undermining of state authority and institutions.

The ambassador also underscored the importance of strengthening state institutions, reaffirming that peace remains the government’s strategic choice—one that should lead to a just, comprehensive and sustainable peace and open the way for Yemenis toward security, stability, and development.

She further reiterated Yemen’s unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people and their right to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

She stressed the importance of ending the violence and violations committed by Israeli occupation forces and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian assistance to those in need.
