ADEN – SABA
Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Mustafa Noman met today with World Food Programme (WFP) Acting Executive Director Carl Skau.
The two parties discussed the humanitarian and food security situation in Yemen and ways to strengthen cooperation in responding to the country’s growing humanitarian needs.
Noman praised the WFP’s humanitarian efforts and interventions in Yemen, stressing the importance of continued coordination with the government to improve the effectiveness of humanitarian assistance and ensure that aid is directed toward the areas and communities with the greatest needs.
He also highlighted the challenges posed by limited resources and declining international humanitarian funding, underscoring the need to ensure that assistance reaches vulnerable populations fairly and effectively.
Noman reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting and supporting all Yemenis without discrimination. He accused the Houthi militia of obstructing humanitarian operations, preventing aid from reaching affected populations, closing the offices of international organizations providing food and medicine, detaining humanitarian workers, and bringing what he described as fabricated charges against them before proceedings that did not provide adequate rights of defense.
Skau reviewed the existing cooperation between the Yemeni government and the WFP, along with the programme’s key humanitarian operations and programmes in Yemen and its plans for the coming period.
He emphasized the importance of continued coordination with government authorities to improve the effectiveness of humanitarian interventions and ensure that assistance is targeted toward the areas and groups most in need.
