ADEN - SABA
The Health Events Committee held a meeting Sunday chaired by Minister of Public Health and Population Dr. Qasim Buhaibeh.

The meeting discusses a number of issues related to the committee’s work, foremost led by recent developments in the local and regional epidemiological situation, efforts to combat diseases and epidemics, and strengthening national preparedness to address public health emergencies.

The meeting reviewed the procedures and activities that need to be completed to improve the efficiency of the health response and strengthen coordination among the relevant authorities.

It also reviewed the current epidemiological situation of several diseases, including measles, cholera, malaria, and vector-borne diseases.
Level of health interventions implemented, surveillance and response plans, and ways to strengthen national capacities for disease monitoring, early detection, and containment were also discussed.

The meeting discussed a number of issues related to strengthening the response to health emergencies, including monitoring the readiness of laboratories, diagnostic facilities, and supply chains, as well as ensuring the availability of the resources required to deal with any potential epidemic outbreak, including support for laboratories and testing and diagnostic capabilities.

The meeting also addressed epidemiological developments at the regional and international levels and the health challenges resulting from outbreaks of measles and cholera, in addition to the concerning situation regarding Ebola virus disease in Africa.

These developments underscore the need to intensify vigilance and surveillance measures and take the necessary precautionary measures to prevent the transmission of diseases through points of entry.

Minister of Public Health and Population Dr. Qasim Buhaibeh stressed the importance of the committee assuming its responsibilities in continuously monitoring epidemiological developments and coordinating efforts among the various sectors and relevant authorities to ensure an effective and rapid response to any health emergency.

Minister Buhaibeh also emphasized the need to strengthen health-control measures at land, sea, and air entry points, monitor flights and incoming travelers, and implement precautionary measures in accordance with the International Health Regulations. This includes completing the installation and activation of thermal cameras and early-detection equipment, as well as providing the necessary technical requirements for teams working at points of entry.

The Minister stressed the importance of proactive preparedness rather than waiting for health risks to arrive, through developing practical plans and scenarios, ensuring the availability of essential response requirements, and strengthening coordination among sectors.
