Al-Arada Calls for Crackdown on Houthi Smuggling Networks
[10/08/2026 02:30]
MARIB-SABA

Member of the Presidential Leadership Council Sultan Al-Arada called Monday for tighter security measures and greater coordination among military and security forces in Al-Mahrah to counter smuggling networks operated by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia.

Al-Arada made the call during a meeting with Major General Salem Kaddah, commander of Al-Ghaydah Military Axis and the Military Police Brigade, attended by Chief of Staff and Joint Operations Commander Lt. Gen. Sagheer bin Aziz.

The meeting reviewed security and military measures in Al-Mahrah, which Al-Arada said holds particular strategic importance as Yemen’s eastern gateway. He stressed the need to protect its border crossings and national interests while strengthening state institutions and preserving stability in the governorate.

He urged the military and security forces to remain on high alert and work closely together to disrupt Houthi smuggling operations and prevent the militia from using them to destabilize Yemen and threaten regional and international security.

Al-Arada praised Governor Mohammed Ali Yasser and the local authorities for supporting security efforts and strengthening state institutions, and commended the military and security forces for maintaining public order.

Bin Aziz praised the performance of Al-Ghaydah Military Axis and called for continued discipline and readiness to confront emerging threats.

Kaddah reaffirmed the axis’s commitment to protecting Al-Mahrah and maintaining its security and stability, while welcoming the leadership’s support for strengthening the capabilities of the armed forces and security services.
