Minister of Public Health and Population Dr. Qasem Buhaibeh met with World Health Organization consultant and international emergency and disaster medicine expert Dr. Mohammed Rashad in the temporary capital, Aden, to review progress on the National Emergency Medical Teams (EMT) development project and ways to strengthen Yemen's emergency health response in line with international standards.
The meeting discussed progress in building the capacity of national emergency medical teams, enhancing rapid response mechanisms, and implementing the project's development plan to improve the health system's preparedness for disasters and major health emergencies.
Dr. Buhaibeh reaffirmed the ministry's commitment, in partnership with the WHO, to establishing well-trained national emergency medical teams capable of responding rapidly and effectively across the country's governorates. He described strengthening national emergency response capacity as a strategic investment in protecting lives and enhancing health security.
For his part, Dr. Rashad praised the Ministry of Health's support for the project, saying it had contributed to significant progress in a short period. He noted that Yemen is emerging as a promising regional model in developing national emergency medical teams through adherence to WHO standards and close institutional cooperation.
