Shura Council Chairman Discusses Developments in Yemen with UN Special Envoy

Chairman of the Shura Council Dr. Ahmed Obeid bin Daghr discussed Wednesday in with the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg current situation in Yemen in light of the rapidly evolving political and military developments.

Risks posed by the escalation of the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militia.

During the meeting, Dr. bin Daghr addressed the Houthis' continued attacks against the Yemeni people and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, warning of their serious consequences for the Yemeni crisis and their potential to push the country toward a more dangerous stage of conflict.

The Chairman of the Shura Council stressed that the ongoing military escalation threatens not only Yemen but also expands the scope of the conflict, deepens the suffering of the Yemeni people, and undermines regional and international efforts aimed at achieving peace.

He emphasized that the current phase requires prioritizing dialogue and ending hostile actions by the Houthi militia, whose continued escalation further complicates the crisis.

Dr. bin Daghr also listened to the UN Special Envoy's assessment and the United Nations' perspective on the latest developments in Yemen.

The two sides further discussed the measures needed to address the Houthi militia's escalation and the importance of intensifying regional and international efforts to preserve the prospects for a political settlement and prevent them from collapsing entirely.
