Yemeni Ambassador, Chinese Official Discuss Houthi Threats to International Shipping

Yemen's Ambassador to China Dr. Mohammed al-Maytami met on Friday with Deputy Director-General of the Department of West Asian and North African Affairs at the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Zhu Biao to discuss developments in Yemen and the escalating threats posed by the Houthi terrorist militias to international navigation in the Red Sea, the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and the Gulf of Aden.

Ambassador al-Maytami stressed that the international community, particularly the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, must take greater responsibility in addressing these threats, warning that continued Houthi escalation jeopardizes international shipping, global trade routes, and regional stability.

He said the militia's actions undermine the UN-led peace process, which continues to receive the backing of the Yemeni government, and called for stronger international support for Yemen's legitimate government and state institutions. He also urged renewed efforts to achieve a comprehensive, just, and lasting political settlement based on the three agreed references endorsed nationally, regionally, and internationally.
