Yemen, Kenya Discuss Bilateral Relations and Regional Security
[21/07/2026 12:01]
NAIROBI-SABA

Yemeni and Kenyan officials met in Nairobi on Tuesday to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange views on the latest developments in Yemen and their implications for regional security.

During the meeting, Chargé d'Affaires of the Yemeni Embassy in Nairobi Abdul Salam Al-Awadhi briefed Acting Director of the Middle East Department at Kenya's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Sora Katelo on recent developments in Yemen. He said the Iran-backed Houthi militia continues to undermine efforts to achieve peace and stability, citing attempts to establish an unauthorized air bridge between Sana'a and Tehran to transport weapons and militant operatives, its rejection of Jordan's initiative to resume flights to Sana'a, and continued attacks on civilian airports in Saudi Arabia, which he said violate international law and threaten regional security.

Al-Awadhi also pointed to growing indications of coordination between the Houthi militia and Somalia's Al-Shabaab terrorist group, warning that such cooperation poses an increasing threat to regional and international security. He added that continued Iranian support for the militia is prolonging the conflict and diminishing prospects for a lasting political settlement.
