Yemen has called for an international conference to rally regional and global support for its education sector during the 96th meeting of the Executive Council of the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States.

Deputy Minister of Education Dr. Ali Al-Abab represented Yemen at the virtual session, which brought together senior education officials from the bureau's member states to review its 2026-2030 strategy and discuss closer cooperation in digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and efforts to improve education standards.

Council members also examined the bureau's ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening educational cooperation, encouraging the exchange of expertise among member states, and preparing national education systems to respond to emerging challenges.

Alongside the meeting, participants attended two specialist workshops. One focused on the growing reliance on private tutoring and its educational, social, and economic implications, while the other explored the opportunities and challenges of integrating artificial intelligence into education. The discussions also highlighted the need for ethical and regulatory frameworks to ensure AI technologies are used safely and responsibly in classrooms.

The session also featured a presentation by Qatar's Ministry of Education and Higher Education on its experience in educating students with disabilities, showcasing policies and practices designed to expand inclusive education and promote equal access to learning.

Participants reaffirmed the importance of sustained coordination among member states to accelerate the development of education systems, broaden the exchange of expertise, and keep pace with global advances in the sector.

Addressing the council, Dr. Al-Abab proposed that the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States organize an international conference dedicated to supporting education in Yemen. He said the event would help mobilize regional and international assistance to rehabilitate and modernize the country's education sector, overcome challenges created by the ongoing crisis, safeguard the continuity of learning, and improve educational outcomes.
