Sudan Denounces Direct Tehran-Sana'a Flights, Backs Yemen's Government
[16/07/2026 01:48]
KHARTOUM-SABA
Sudan has criticized the launch of unauthorized direct flights between Tehran and Sana'a, saying the move violates Yemen's sovereignty, infringes on its airspace, and contravenes international aviation rules.

In a statement, Sudan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation warned that the flights could widen the scope of regional tensions by extending the conflict around the Strait of Hormuz to the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. It said such a development would pose a serious threat to international trade routes and freedom of navigation.

The ministry said the unauthorized air link risks altering the security landscape in the region at a time of heightened instability, with potentially far-reaching consequences for maritime traffic through one of the world's busiest shipping corridors.

Sudan also renewed its support for Yemen's internationally recognized government and reaffirmed its solidarity with the Yemeni people amid what it described as ongoing attacks and abuses by the Houthi militia and its foreign backers.
