Minister of Water and Environment Eng. Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi discussed Thursday with the Country Director of Solidarités International Damaris Bevindt a project aimed at strengthening climate-resilient urban water supply and sanitation systems for the most vulnerable communities in Taiz.
The two parties discussed aligning the initiative with the sector's priorities and Yemen's National Water Strategy.
Theey reviewed the project's objectives, components, and expected impact on improving the sustainability of water and sanitation services through enhanced water production and supply, upgraded infrastructure and increased resilience to the effects of climate change.
The project also seeks to strengthen governance and build the institutional capacity of the Taiz Local Water and Sanitation Corporation.
The meeting further addressed coordination mechanisms between the Ministry and Solidarités International to ensure complementarity with development partners, direct interventions in line with the priorities of the water and sanitation sector, improve the efficiency of project implementation, and achieve sustainable development outcomes in Taiz Governorate.
Minister al-Sharjabi stressed the importance of aligning development projects with the government's priorities and national strategies to ensure the optimal use of resources and maximize investment efficiency in the water sector.
He also underscored the need to build upon the technical studies and data prepared by the Ministry when designing and implementing development initiatives.
For her part, the Country Director of Solidarités International reaffirmed the organization's commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Ministry of Water and Environment and relevant national institutions to ensure that the project reflects government priorities and addresses the needs of Taiz Governorate.
She also praised the Ministry's leadership role in guiding and coordinating water and sanitation sector projects.
