The Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) headed by His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, held a joint meeting today, Monday, with the National Defense Council, (NDC) in the presence of all its members: Sultan al-Arada, Tariq Saleh, Abdulrahman al-Mahrami, Dr. Abdullah al-Alimi, Othman Majli, Mahmoud al-Subaihi and Salem al-Khanbashi.

Water Minister, UNICEF Official Discuss Support for Water and Sanitation Sector

Minister of Water and Environment Eng. Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi met on Wednesday with UNICEF Deputy Representative for Programmes in Yemen Obia Achieng to discuss cooperation in the water, sanitation, and nutrition sectors, as well as support for humanitarian initiatives aimed at improving essential services and alleviating hardships faced by vulnerable communities.

The meeting reviewed progress in joint projects and programs being implemented by the ministry and UNICEF and examined priorities for the next phase, with a focus on strengthening water and public health security and advancing sustainable interventions in underserved areas.

Al-Sharjabi highlighted the extensive collaboration between the ministry and UNICEF, noting that the partnership has produced numerous projects and technical studies to support the development of the water and sanitation sector, while additional initiatives remain under implementation.

He said the ministry is pursuing long-term solutions to key challenges facing the sector, particularly securing reliable energy sources for water facilities, enhancing water and food security, and improving sanitation services. He stressed the importance of maintaining close coordination with UNICEF and other international partners to expand service delivery and address growing needs.

For her part, the UNICEF official commended the level of cooperation with the ministry and reaffirmed the organization's commitment to deepening the partnership in the period ahead.

She noted that UNICEF and the ministry are engaged in a broad range of joint programs and support activities, including resource mobilization and advocacy efforts, which provide a foundation for building on previous achievements and advancing the sustainability and resilience of Yemen's water and sanitation sector while improving services for citizens.
