ADEN – SABA
Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries Salem al-Socotri inaugurated Tuesday the coordination meeting of the Food Security and Agriculture Cluster in the interim capital, Aden.
The meeting brought together more than 60 international and local organizations, as well as development partners working in the fields of agriculture, food security and livelihoods. Participants discussed key priorities, including major gaps and needs in the agriculture and food security sectors, along with mechanisms to strengthen coordination among government institutions, international and local organizations, and development partners.
Minister al-Socotri emphasized the importance of the meeting as a vital platform for enhancing coordination and integration between government bodies, international partners, and organizations operating in the agricultural and food security sectors.
He highlighted the need to address challenges arising from climate change, water scarcity, agricultural land degradation, and the spread of cross-border plant and animal diseases.
He noted that the ministry is working to develop and update national strategies related to agriculture and food security in line with current developments and emerging challenges.
The minister stressed the importance of directing development projects toward achieving sustainability and maximizing their long-term impact on local communities by improving livelihoods, increasing productivity, and supporting comprehensive rural development.
He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to continued cooperation and coordination with all international and regional partners to support food security efforts and agricultural development in Yemen.
For his part, Global Food Security and Agriculture Cluster Coordinator Abdo Majid underscored the importance of strengthening coordination and integration among humanitarian and development partners, while avoiding duplication of projects, particularly amid limited funding resources.
He pointed out that the international community and donor agencies continue to provide strong support for response plans in Yemen.
