Presidential Leadership Council member Lt. Gen. Mahmoud al-Subaihi discussed prospects for expanding Yemeni-Japanese cooperation and reviewed developments in Yemen with Japanese Ambassador to Yemen Yoichi Nakashima during a meeting on Monday.

The talks focused on bilateral relations, regional developments, and opportunities to strengthen cooperation in support of shared interests, particularly in development and reconstruction.

Al-Subaihi praised the longstanding ties between Yemen and Japan and expressed appreciation for Tokyo's continued humanitarian and development support for the Yemeni people.

He stressed that Yemen's security challenges extend beyond the country's borders, affecting regional stability as well as international shipping lanes and global trade routes, and called for continued international support for the Yemeni government in its efforts to restore security and stability.

The PLC member also highlighted government efforts to preserve state institutions, improve basic services, and mitigate the humanitarian and economic hardships facing citizens, emphasizing that a comprehensive and lasting peace remains essential to addressing the country's broader challenges.

Al-Subaihi underscored the importance of expanding cooperation with Japan, particularly in infrastructure rehabilitation, education, healthcare, capacity building, and local development to support recovery and sustainable growth.

For his part, Ambassador Nakashima reaffirmed Japan's commitment to supporting the Yemeni people and backing efforts aimed at achieving peace, security, and stability. He said Japan remains closely engaged with developments in Yemen and will continue supporting humanitarian and development programs designed to improve living conditions and promote recovery.

The meeting concluded with the ambassador presenting al-Subaihi with a traditional Japanese artwork symbolizing respect, prosperity, and success, reflecting the strong friendship between the two countries.
