Prime Minister Reviews Support for Government Reforms, Expansion of Development Partnership with the European Union

The Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Shaya Zindani discussed Thursday with the Head of the European Union Mission to Yemen Ambassador Gabriel Munuera Viñals prospects for strengthening the existing partnership between Yemen and the European Union, opportunities to expand development financing programs, and support for the government's efforts to implement its comprehensive reform agenda, institutional development, and improvement of basic services.

The meeting also addressed political and security developments at the national, regional and international levels, the threat posed by the Houthi terrorist militia to maritime security in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and ongoing efforts to achieve peace in Yemen.

Dr. Zindani emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership with the European Union, expressing appreciation for the EU’s support for the government's economic and institutional reform plans aimed at enhancing stability and improving the performance of state institutions.

He also commended the EU’s support to efforts to improve humanitarian conditions and promote sustainable development.

The Prime Minister and Foreign Minister highlighted the government's efforts to address service-related challenges, particularly in the electricity sector, and the measures being taken to improve service efficiency. He praised the fraternal support provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, most recently through its fuel derivatives grant to operate power plants. He also expressed the government's aspiration to strengthen cooperation with the European Union in the coming period, expand development and investment support programs, and build on international initiatives aimed at supporting the Yemeni economy, thereby enhancing the capacity of state institutions to fulfill their responsibilities.

For his part, the Head of the European Union Mission reaffirmed the EU’s continued support for the government and its reform plans, as well as its commitment to strengthening partnership and cooperation across various fields in a manner that serves the interests of the Yemeni people and contributes to stability and development.
