The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Dr. Afrah al-Zouba chaired a meeting held today, in the temporary capital Aden, aimed to review the results of the UNDP Country Program Document for 2025 and the proposed Country Program for the period 2027-2029.
Al-Zouba called for adopting a different development vision that goes beyond the traditional aid-based model, towards development that stems from the local community, enhancing economic empowerment, linking livelihoods to production and export chains, in addition to empowering local authorities in government-controlled areas.
The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation underscored the important role of the UNDP in Yemen for more than six decades, and its continued performance of its tasks with the support of donor partners.
She stated that the preparation of the new country program is being carried out under a unified national government and a government program based on six national priorities, guided by the directives of the political leadership.
The UNDP Resident Representative in Yemen Zina Ali cited the most prominent programs of the past period, challenges the achievements realized despite the decline of finances.
She noted that the UNDP Program Plan for 2027-2029 will be focusing on improving the national institutions capacities and increasing the digital solutions as well as promoting the role of the UNDP as a key partner for development in Yemen.
