Social Affairs Minister, Dutch Ambassador Discuss Boosting Humanitarian and Development Cooperation

Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Mukhtar al-Yafei, held talks on Wednesday in the interim capital Aden with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Yemen, Jeannette Seppen, on ways to strengthen cooperation in humanitarian, relief, and development fields.

The meeting addressed a number of issues of mutual concern, foremost among them support for humanitarian programs, enhancement of social protection projects, and the empowerment of women and youth.

Discussions also focused on improving coordination mechanisms to ensure aid reaches eligible beneficiaries efficiently and transparently, while increasing the effectiveness of humanitarian interventions.

Al-Yafei praised the support provided by the Netherlands to Yemen, particularly in light of the ongoing economic and humanitarian challenges.

He stressed that the ministry is moving forward with reorganizing humanitarian work under an institutional vision based on partnership with donors, and transitioning from emergency relief toward empowerment and sustainable development pathways.

The minister also referred to an upcoming consultative meeting scheduled to be held in Aden, aimed at strengthening partnerships with international donors and civil society organizations, and developing a roadmap to help unify humanitarian efforts under a national framework.

For her part, Ambassador Seppen reaffirmed her country’s commitment to continuing support for Yemen in humanitarian and development sectors, particularly in health, social protection, and the empowerment of women and youth. She also expressed readiness to enhance coordination and cooperation in a way that improves the efficiency and impact of humanitarian work.
