[31/03/2026 01:18]

ADEN – SABA
Member of the Presidential Leadership Council Lieutenant General Mahmoud Salem al-Subaihi received Tuesday the European Union Ambassador to Yemen, Patrick Simonnet.

The two parties discussed the latest developments in Yemen and ways to enhance joint cooperation between the two sides.

Al-Subaihi reviewed the developments on the national scene, as well as the efforts of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to establish security and stability and continue the path of reforms.

These include unifying security and military decision-making, supporting institutional work to strengthen state institutions, and improving the efficiency of government performance across various sectors.

The member of the Presidential Leadership Council stressed that the current phase requires the combined efforts of regional and international actors to support the government and enable it to address accumulated challenges, foremost among them economic and service-related challenges.

He emphasized the importance of continued support from international partners, particularly the European Union, in a way that helps alleviate citizens’ suffering and achieve gradual recovery.

He also praised the European Union’s supportive positions toward Yemen in various fields, especially in economic and developmental areas, affirming the government’s aspiration to expand cooperation with the EU to include broader areas, particularly in sustainable development and capacity-building sectors.

Al-Subaihi also addressed the threats posed by the terrorist Houthi militias backed by the Iranian regime, noting that their danger is not limited to Yemen or the region but has extended to threaten global security through targeting international shipping routes in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab.

He stressed that this requires a more decisive international stance to support the government in extending its control over all its territories.

For his part, the European Union Ambassador affirmed the strength of cooperation and partnership relations with the government, reiterating the EU’s commitment to supporting the Presidential Leadership Council and the government in achieving security, stability and development.
