Member of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Abdullah al-Alimi met today with the European Union Ambassador to Yemen Patrick Simonnet.
The two parties discussed cooperation and partnership relations between the two parties and reviewed the latest developments on the national scene.
The meeting addressed priorities for European support to assist the government’s efforts in capacity building, improving basic services, and restoring confidence in international financial institutions.
Dr. Al-Alimi praised the political, humanitarian, and development support provided by the European Union to Yemen, particularly its support for the humanitarian response plan.
He affirmed that this assistance has served as a vital lifeline for millions of Yemenis amid one of the world’s most complex humanitarian crises.
The Presidential Leadership Council member stressed the importance of backing the Prime Minister and the government to enable them to implement programs aimed at normalizing conditions in the liberated governorates and improving service levels.
He noted that the government is operating from the temporary capital, Aden, working from within the country, reflecting the state’s commitment to confronting challenges and meeting citizens’ needs.
Dr. al-Alimi also commended the pivotal role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in supporting Yemen and its leadership, as well as its efforts in service, economic, and humanitarian fields. He highlighted the tangible improvements witnessed by citizens in the liberated governorates, particularly in the electricity sector—one of the most complex service files underscoring the importance of continuing such support to enhance stability and sustain the recovery momentum.
He further expressed appreciation for the Kingdom’s efforts in promoting national consensus and sponsoring South–South dialogue as an inclusive path contributing to addressing the Southern issue within a comprehensive political framework and strengthening prospects for stability.
For his part, the EU Ambassador affirmed the European Union’s continued support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government, backing efforts aimed at enhancing stability, improving humanitarian and service conditions, and working with regional and international partners to support the peace process.
