RIYADH-SABA
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, on Monday received Secretary-General of the German Ministry of Defense, Nils Hilmer, accompanied by the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Yemen, Thomas Schneider.
The talks focused on bilateral relations and prospects for strengthening cooperation in security and defense, as well as German and European support priorities aimed at enhancing the Yemeni government’s capacity to restore stability, combat terrorism, and safeguard international maritime navigation.
President al-Alimi commended Germany’s consistent support for Yemen’s unity, security, and stability, and its significant humanitarian contributions, noting that this assistance reflects a strong moral and political commitment to the Yemeni people amid one of the world’s most complex humanitarian crises.
The President briefed the German official on recent corrective measures undertaken by the state to unify military and security leadership and eliminate dual decision-making, stressing that these steps are essential for restoring human security, internal stability, effective institutional performance, the delivery of aid, and renewed confidence with the international community.
He underscored that the sovereign decisions taken were necessary to prevent the emergence of parallel forces challenging the state’s exclusive authority, warning that the proliferation of armed groups outside official institutions fuels insecurity, chaos, and extremism.
Discussions also addressed the regional and international dimensions of ongoing security and military reforms. President al-Alimi emphasized that unified institutional decision-making strengthens cooperation in counterterrorism and maritime security, protects freedom of navigation, and safeguards global supply chains and energy security.
The President reaffirmed Yemen’s commitment to close, long-term partnerships with the international community in counterterrorism efforts, based on integrated mechanisms that combine security measures with governance reform and improved public services to address the root causes of extremism.
On the peace process, President al-Alimi reiterated that the Yemeni leadership remains committed to a political settlement, while stressing that a credible deterrent capability is essential to ensure the success of any negotiations and to prevent Houthi militias from exploiting concessions.
He renewed his appreciation for the pivotal role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in supporting Yemen’s legitimate government, preserving state institutions, and advancing de-escalation and peace efforts, noting that these initiatives have helped prevent wider regional instability.
President al-Alimi concluded by emphasizing that the current phase offers the international community an opportunity to engage with a unified, reliable, and accountable Yemeni partner, stressing that sustained political, security, economic, and humanitarian support for the Yemeni state is a direct investment in regional and global stability.
