President al-Alimi Receives Secretary-General of Gulf Cooperation Council
[17/12/2025 01:22]

RIYADH – SABA
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, received Wednesday the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi.

During the meeting, the president affirmed the depth of the fraternal and historical relations between the Republic of Yemen and the GCC.

The President noted that Yemen represents the natural strategic depth of the GCC states, and that Yemen’s stability is an integral part of the security and stability of the Gulf.

He expressed confidence in the Yemeni people’s ability and determination to overcome current challenges and to strengthen paths of integration and inclusion within the Gulf system.

The President briefed the GCC Secretary-General on the latest developments in the Republic of Yemen and on the good offices led by the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates aimed at de-escalation and restoring normal conditions.

The President praised the recent GCC statement reaffirming support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the government, and the responsible and balanced role played by the General Secretariat alongside the Yemeni people and their political leadership.

He recalled the role of GCC states in sponsoring peace and stability efforts in Yemen, beginning with the Gulf Initiative and the Riyadh Agreement, and culminating in the Yemeni-Yemeni consultations that led to the announcement of the transfer of power and the formation of the Presidential Leadership Council.

He emphasized that this generous sponsorship established inclusive political references that continue to serve as a roadmap for any sustainable solution, stressing that the gains achieved by the Riyadh consultations require the concerted efforts of all to protect them and realize their intended goals—foremost among them the restoring state institutions and bringing of peace and stability to all parts of Yemen.

The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council renewed the Council’s commitment to resolving the Southern Issue in accordance with the outcomes of the Riyadh consultations and all guaranteeing references, as a just national cause that ensures the fulfillment of all legitimate aspirations in line with the popular will.

He highlighted the significant economic and humanitarian support provided by GCC states—whether to the general budget and the Central Bank, or in humanitarian and development assistance, fuel derivatives, mine clearance, and other areas.

He pointed out that this generous support was not merely relief, but a lever for stability and a bulwark against the comprehensive collapse of the Yemeni state.

The President also renewed his praise for the General Secretariat’s initiative to sponsor an international conference on food security and Yemen donors, aimed at improving livelihoods and supporting economic stability and basic services.

For his part, the GCC Secretary-General reaffirmed the firm Gulf position in support of the Yemeni people and the strong commitment to supporting the Presidential Leadership Council and the government, achieving security and stability, and reaching a comprehensive political solution in accordance with the Gulf Initiative and its executive mechanism, the outcomes of the Comprehensive National Dialogue Conference and relevant UN Security Council resolutions—particularly Resolution 2216—in a manner that preserves Yemen’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.
