In a statement, CAF said that "Asad" was inspired by the Atlas lion, one of Morocco's most prominent national symbols and a unifying and powerful figure across the continent.

The statement added that the name "Asad" signifies strength, pride, and cultural authenticity—values that resonate with fans in Morocco and throughout Africa.
