LAHJ – SABA
Governor of Lahj Governorate Major General Ahmed Turki discussed on Sunday with a number of local and international organizations the enhancement of local development efforts and the mechanisms and priorities for implementing new projects in the Lahj Delta (Wadi Tuban).
During the meeting, which included the General Director of the Subregional Office of the Public Works Project for the governorates of Aden, Lahj, Abyan and al-Dhalea, Engineer Mohsen Alawi; the General Director of the Subregional Office of the Social Fund for Development for the same governorates, Engineer Fouad Taher; the coordinator of the UN-Habitat Program, Dr. Mohammed Aidroos; and representatives of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Governor Turki reviewed the proposed implementation paths for the new projects that the four entities will begin executing in the Lahj Delta (Wadi Tuban) and Tuban District, within the sectors of agriculture and irrigation, water and sanitation and the environment, stressing the importance of precise planning that meets the needs of the population and reinforces the efficiency of service infrastructure.
The Governor emphasized the need to avoid duplication among projects, explaining that systematic coordination ensures the distribution of efforts across various fields without repetition, allowing each supporting entity to present its qualitative initiative that complements others, thus strengthening the feasibility of interventions and creating effective development that serves farmers and the residents of the delta.
He pointed out that Lahj Governorate possesses exceptional agricultural potential due to the fertility of its lands and its importance as a main food-producing area in Yemen, noting that strategic interventions to support Wadi Tuban will restore its historical role and provide an advanced productive environment that enhances the country’s food security.
The Governor praised the continuous efforts made by organizations in presenting their new projects for Lahj Governorate and the developmental value they achieve in contributing to the advancement of public services.
For their part, the representatives of the development organizations affirmed their commitment to supporting the valley with pioneering projects that restore and strengthen its agricultural and service presence, indicating their readiness to implement qualitative interventions based on transparent professional standards and continuous coordination with the leadership of Lahj Governorate to ensure the success of the plans and achieve tangible impact for citizens in various areas.
