His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed al-Alimi, the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, received Wednesday, the Ambassador of the French Republic to Yemen, Catherine Corm-Kammoun, discussing with her the latest developments on the national scene and the French support needed for the country’s comprehensive reform program.
During the meeting, the President expressed his deep appreciation for the historic relations between the two friendly countries and for France’s active role in supporting international maritime security in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, as well as its contribution to humanitarian and relief efforts and its principled stance at the UN Security Council in support of the Yemeni people and their aspirations to end their suffering and restore state institutions.
The meeting also touched on economic conditions and the government’s programs aimed at promoting recovery, improving services, ensuring regular payment of salaries, consolidating the presence of the state and its institutions in the interim capital Aden and mitigating the repercussions of the funding crisis exacerbated by the terrorist Houthi militia attacks on oil facilities.
In this regard, the President praised the position of the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for their support of the state’s general budget and assistance to the government in fulfilling its essential obligations led by payment of employees’ salaries in the coming days.
The president also reaffirmed the Council’s and the government’s commitment to supporting a comprehensive and sustainable peace process based on national, regional and international references, especially the UN Security Council Resolution 2216, and to ending Iranian interference that has prolonged the conflict and deepened the humanitarian crisis.
He emphasized the importance of France’s role within the Security Council and the European Union in supporting efforts to enhance monitoring mechanisms against arms smuggling, tighten international sanctions, protect maritime security and hold violators of international humanitarian law accountable.
For her part, the French Ambassador renewed her country’s support for the Yemeni government, peace efforts, maritime security, addressing the humanitarian situation and enhancing joint cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
