RIYADH - SABA
His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed al-Alimi, the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, along with Council member Dr. Abdullah al-Alimi, received Monday the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Yemen, Abda Sharif.
The meeting discussed the latest developments in Yemen, efforts toward economic and security reforms and ways to alleviate the humanitarian crisis caused by the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militias.
During the meeting, President al-Alimi praised the United Kingdom’s support for the humanitarian response plan, the economic reform program and its steadfast position alongside the Yemeni people and their aspirations to restore state institutions, security, stability and development.
The meeting also reviewed the progress of economic and financial reforms and their expected outcomes in improving government performance and fulfilling the state’s essential obligations, led by the regular payment of employees’ salaries.
He commended the United Kingdom’s support for Yemen’s economic recovery plan and the Coast Guard forces, as well as its efforts to enhance their capacity to protect territorial waters, combat terrorism and smuggling, and address cross-border threats.
President al-Alimi reaffirmed the Council and Government’s commitment to a comprehensive peace approach based on nationally, regionally, and internationally agreed references, particularly UN Security Council Resolution 2216.
He warned against granting any new incentives to the terrorist militias.
He emphasized that lasting peace can only be achieved by ensuring that cycles of violence do not recur—through criminalizing sectarian and racist tendencies and empowering the state with its exclusive authority and legitimate right to monopolize arms and the decisions of war and peace.
