ADEN - SABA
The Government of Yemen has expressed its deep concern and regret regarding the recent decision made by the U.S. Administration to restrict the entry of citizens of the Republic of Yemen to the United States, as part of a group of countries included in this decision.
In a statement issued Thursday evening, the government said: "While the government of Yemen fully respects the sovereign right of countries to take appropriate measures to protect their national security, it views this decision, in its current form, as having a profoundly negative impact on thousands of Yemenis, including students, researchers, and family supporters, who have been and continue to be committed to U.S. laws."
The government renewed its deep appreciation for the historical relations between the Republic of Yemen and the United States, based on mutual respect and joint cooperation in various fields, particularly in combating terrorism and enhancing regional and international security and stability.
The government praised the strategic partnership between the two countries on multiple issues, especially in light of the extraordinary circumstances facing the Republic of Yemen due to the coup by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia, which has led to severe humanitarian, security, and economic suffering.
The Government of Yemen called on the esteemed U.S. Administration to reconsider this decision and to exempt Yemeni citizens from it, in recognition of the difficult humanitarian conditions faced by the Yemeni people, and in line with the longstanding American values of supporting peoples striving for freedom, justice and stability.
The government also emphasized its commitment to continue coordinating and cooperating with the relevant U.S. authorities to enhance verification and review processes, ensuring compliance with the highest security standards required, within the framework of security coordination between the two countries, in order to dispel any concerns and enhance opportunities for humanitarian, academic, and social communication between the two friendly peoples.
