RIYADH - SABA
Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, along with Council member Sultan al-Aradah Wednesday received the U.S. Ambassador to Yemen Stephen Fagin.
They discussed with him bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, especially in the areas of combating terrorism, organized crime, and enhancing the close partnership between both parties across various levels.
At the beginning of the meeting, the U.S. Ambassador conveyed the congratulations of President Donald Trump and the U.S. Administration to the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council and its members, on the occasion of the 35th National Day of the Republic of Yemen, wishing him good health and happiness, and wishing the Yemeni people security, stability and peace.
The meeting addressed the latest developments in local and regional situations, as well as the humanitarian and economic support needed to improve the position of the national currency and basic services, in addition to ongoing coordination to support law enforcement efforts, combat terrorism, money laundering, and organized crime.
The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council praised the remarkable development in bilateral relations with the United States and its effective role in implementing the ban on Iranian weapons smuggled to the Houthi militias, drying up their funding sources, and countering their terrorist activities and threats to the security and stability of Yemen and the region.
In this context, he reaffirmed the urgent need for regional and international partnership with the legitimate government to secure maritime passages and address common challenges at all levels.
He ruled out any serious intentions from the Houthi militias and their supporters to change their destructive behavior, as they operate in the long term to achieve the goals of the Iranian expansionist project in the region, considering that any response from them to de-escalation is merely deceptive tactics to retain their sources of power, regain positioning, and return to escalating their hostile approach.
The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council reiterated that "ending the Houthi terrorist threat will only occur if it faces a decisive defeat that strips it of its sources of strength: money, land and weapons," which requires investing in the present moment and mobilizing all resources to support the UN member government to assert its full control over its national territory.
