The First Deputy Governor of Taiz Dr. Abdulqawi al-Mikhlafi discussed Tuesday with the Country Director of Mercy Corps Riaz Khan the developmental and sustainable interventions being implemented by the organization in the governorate.
Al-Mikhlafi praised the humanitarian and relief role that the organization has undertaken and its effective contributions to alleviating the humanitarian suffering experienced in the governorate.
He called for intensifying efforts in the coming phase and directing programs and projects in accordance with the developmental strategy prepared by the local authority, which considers the priorities and needs of the community across various sectors.
The Deputy Governor reviewed the key features of the economic and social development plan, which aims to achieve recovery and sustainable development, address the damage to infrastructure and provide tangible services to citizens.
For his part, Khan confirmed that Mercy Corps' interventions in the coming period will focus more on developmental fields alongside implementing several projects in three main sectors.
He explained that Taiz is one of the governorates that has a clear and comprehensive strategy for needs, which provides ample opportunities for coordinated developmental work.
Khan appreciated the facilitation provided by the local authority to organizations working in Taiz, which enhances the effectiveness of humanitarian and developmental interventions.
