The activities of the Future of Renewable Energy Forum in Yemen commenced Monday here.
The forum is organized and funded by the Al-Awn Foundation for Development.
During the opening session of the forum, Hadhramaut Deputy Governor Hassan Salem al-Jilani emphasized that the local authority appreciates these steps in addressing the major challenges facing the energy sector in the country.
This is being achieved by involving local and international consulting experts to identify the latest developments in renewable energy, especially solar energy, which represents a promising solution to the chronic problems in our country.
He pointed out the importance of the sustainable development opportunities in this vital field, in line with strategic orientations towards supporting sustainable development and contributing to improving the lives of citizens.
He praised the efforts of the Al-Awn Foundation in highlighting innovations and modern technologies in solar energy, expressing hope that this forum will reflect the identity of sustainable development, not only through providing aid and development projects but also by directing efforts towards finding long-term strategic solutions.
For his part, the Executive Director of the Al-Awn Foundation for Development, Dr. Abdallah bin Othman, revealed that the foundation's orientation for the period from 2024 to 2028 comes from the belief that renewable energy is the key to prosperous economic development and also helps mitigate the effects of climate change.
He explained that utilizing solar energy is not just a solution to the electricity problem, but also a practical developmental step towards achieving sustainable development and reducing reliance on fossil fuels, which have become a substantial burden on the national economy, in addition to environmental damage.
This underscores the necessity to focus on this vital direction, which is renewable energy.
The solar energy expert, Dr. Abdallah Baradi, presented an introduction to energy in Yemen and the potential of solar energy.
On the sidelines of the forum, four sessions are being held: the first on the challenges and opportunities of solar energy, the second on active partners and stakeholders, the third on governance and technical specifications in solar energy projects, and the fourth on the legislation and laws necessary to encourage investment in solar energy.
