RIYADH-SABA
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) received today, Sunday, Ambassador of the Republic of France to the Republic of Yemen Katherine Corm Kammoun who handed him an invitation from the French President Emmanuel Macron to attended the opening events of the Olympics games that Paris hosts by the end of next month.
The conversations covered Yemeni-French bilateral relations, the latest developments in Yemen and the region and the repercussions of the terrorist Houthi militias' continuous attacks on oil seaports and international shipping lanes that have undermined chances to establish and stability in Yemen.
The talks also touched upon underway preparations to hold the meetings of Paris Club by the end of this month and the expected role by Yemen's partners and friends in handling Yemen's debts, sustaining the government's efforts to improve the economic situations, basic services and alleviate the humanitarian crisis created by Iran-backed terrorist Houthi militias' coup.
The French Ambassador briefed the Chairman of the PLC on her recent communications with key national, regional and international players and Paris' opinion about the developments at national and regional levels.
President al-Almi highly praised Yemeni-French bilateral relations and cooperation, greatly appreciating France's understanding about the monetary and banking reforms the Central Bank of Yemen (CBY) has been undertaking backed by the PLC.
He reassured the banking system and international community that the CBY's recent decisions are only requiring the banks in the terrorist Houthi militias-controlled region to move the managements of their major operations to the temporary capital Aden, including the information systems, databases and international operations, they also have to convened the meetings of their general assembly outside the militia-controlled regions, while they can continue their banking businesses as braches all over the governorates per laws in effects.
The Chairman of the PLC recalled unilateral measures and destructive practices the Houthi militias have embarked on throughout the previous years, deliberately seeking to divide the banking system, damaging the national economy, exacerbating the humanitarian disaster, undermining trust in the national currency, ending up in issuing a false currency and making Yemeni banks liable for international sanctions.
President al-Almi has made it clear that the CBY's resolutions are cheer technical and financial measures, have no political backgrounds, they rather come within the bank's mandates and its legal responsibilities to protect the banking system from collapse.
