[09/05/2024 04:38]

RIYADH - SABA
Member of the Presidential Leadership Council Dr. Abdullah al-Alimi received on Thursday the US Ambassador to Yemen Steven Fagin to discuss with him latest developments in Yemen, the efforts made to achieve peace in Yemen, and regional and international developments.

The meeting addressed a range of economic, service, and security challenges faced by the Yemeni people over the criminal practices of the Houthi militias in various fields.

It also discussed the continued terrorist attacks by the Houthi militias on maritime shipping vessels and international navigation routes and their catastrophic consequences on the living conditions of the Yemeni people, as well as the peoples of the region and their national economies.

He called on the international community to take more deterrent steps against these militias that exploit the Palestinian cause to serve the Iranian agenda in controlling the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

"The escalation and undermining of chances for peace by the Houthi militia should receive greater focus and attention from the regional and international community to constrain the actions of this terrorist group, put an end to its weapons and practices against the Yemeni people and the region, and support the government in restoring state institutions and asserting its control over all Yemeni territories, peacefully or by force," said al-Alimi.

Member of the Presidential Council also reviewed the efforts of the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to reach a permanent and comprehensive peace agreement in Yemen under the auspices of the United Nations.

He affirmed the positive response of the Presidential Council to these good efforts and their keenness to end the suffering of our people and spare them the consequences of this destructive war.

Dr. Abdullah al-Alimi emphasized the importance of supporting the government to undertake further economic and administrative reforms, combating corruption, and strengthening the building of state institutions.

He reiterated the condemnation of the Yemeni government for the heinous and terrorist Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, warning of a humanitarian catastrophe due to the Israeli aggression's control over the Rafah crossing from the Palestinian side.

He reaffirmed Yemen's full solidarity and support for the struggle of the Palestinian people and their right to establish their independent state based on international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

For his part, the US Ambassador affirmed his country's support for the efforts of the Yemeni government and all efforts made to achieve peace in Yemen.

He reiterated his country's supportive stance towards the Presidential Council and the security, unity, and stability of Yemen.
