RIYADH-SABA
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) along with the PLC's member Dr. Abdullah al-Alimi received today, Sunday, High Representatives of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrel, Vice Chairman of the European Commission.
The conversations covered a range of topical issues including the required European interventions to allay the humanitarian suffering created by Iran-allied Terrorist Houthi militias, Yemeni-European bilateral relations, latest developments about the Yemeni situations, Houthi militias' grave violations of human rights and terrorist attacks at national and regional levels, and the developments in the region.
President al-Alimi praised the EU's steady stance in support of the Yemeni people, its internationally recognized government and its right to restore the state's institutions, security, peace and development.
Al-Alimis detailed the Mr. Borell on the latest developments in the Yemeni national arena amid the Houthi militias' ongoing serious violations of human rights and terrorist attacks at the national and regional levels, and the impacts of the militias' violations and attacks upon the living conditions of the Yemeni people and the economic consequences nationally and regionally as well as the upon the international peace and security.
The Chairman of the PLC insisted that the PLC and the Yemeni government are very keen on achieving the comprehensive and fair peace that is based on the terms of the peace references that are nationally, regionally and internationally agreed on, particularly the UNSCR 2216.
He also confirmed the PLC's full support for the efforts of the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Special Envoy of the UN to launch an inclusive political process that satisfies the Yemenis' aspirations to restore the state's institutions which are the guarantor for equal citizenship and public freedoms.
The President noted that it is very difficult to reach a permanent peace due to the lack of a partner that is earnestly seeking for peace, willing to put the Yemeni people's interests above the Iranian regimes', in addition to that the international community has continued to be unwilling to take firm measures to dry the militias' financial resources and weapons supplies, dismantle the militia's racial doctrine that based on a self-claim to have a divine right to govern the humankind, promote a hostile propaganda against the societies, religions, human rights and human dignity.
Concerning to the regional developments, the President reiterated the Republic of Yemen's steady stance in support of the Palestinian people and its right to establish its independent and sovereign state , rejecting any Israeli military escalation on the city of Rafah, warning of the disastrous humanitarian consequences for the city's population as the city hosts some 1.4 million of the Palestinians.
The EU High Representative has confirmed that the EU is very interested in the security, stability of Yemen and its territorial integrity.
He stated that the EU is very keen to support all efforts aiming to achieve peace in the country and to sustain the government's role in exercising its control over the country's regional waters.
