Chair of Woman National Committee meets with European parliamentary delegation

The Chair of the Woman National Committee (WNC) Dr. Shafiqa Saeed met today, Wednesday, in met Aden with a high-rank delegation from the European Parliament (EP) represented by the Chair of the Arab Peninsula Committee in the EP Hannah Newman, the MPs Niles Felgsang and György Holvini and European Union Ambassador of the EU Gabriel Munera Viñales as well as Administrator Kristen Noel Jo Negberg from the Euro-Mediterranean and Middle East Unit.

The conversations covered a range of topical issues including the WNC's plans, programs and actions, government's decisions and plans to improve women involvement in leading positions of the state's intuitions and challenges Yemeni woman faced by as well as violations in several fields.

The Chair of the WNC cited the practical steps the government has taken to improve the woman's status including appointing women in the Supreme Judiciary Council with 20% and a woman in the High Court for the first time in the country.

She also noted that the government has significantly improved woman engagement in the security and police services, establishing women police centers in different governorates.
