Yemen SP, US deputy chief of mission discuss important issues on Yemeni arena
[19/09/2023 04:51]
Cairo – Saba
Speaker of Yemen's parliament, Sheikh Sultan Al-Barakani, discussed today with the deputy chief of US diplomatic mission to Yemen Inger Tangbornto a number of important issues on the national Yemeni arena, including those related to peace paths and its available prospects.

During the meeting, Al-Barakani touched on the efforts made by the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia... praising all the brothers’ sincere brotherly support in various fields, their standing by the Yemeni people, and the efforts aimed at pushing the Houthi militia towards seriously dealing with calls for peace, and halting the suffering of the Yemeni people and bloodshed.

The Parliament's speaker reviewed the overall difficult conditions that Yemen is going through as a result of the practices and crimes of the Houthi militia against our people and Houthi violations against civilians, and the threat to regional and international security and peace.

He pointed out that this is not unusual behavior from a group that is committed to deception and betrayal and to breaking all peace options and covenants that it has maintained and its arrogance over the decisions of the international community in front of the eyes of the whole world... stressing that the path to peace is clear and its regulations are well defined, and our references in that are the consensus of the Yemeni people, represented by the three agreed-upon terms of reference, which are the outcomes of the national dialogue, the Gulf initiative and its implementation mechanisms, and the UN resolutions, including Resolution 2216.

He reiterated the government is in constant concern about peace, and that concern stems from its national and humanitarian responsibilities towards Yemen and its people.

Al-Barakani also stressed that the parliament, in exercising its legislative and oversight duties, is based on its concern for Yemen’s security, stability, territorial integrity, and the right of its citizens to live in dignity, implementing the constitution and laws, raising their status, respecting the status of cooperation between the authorities, combating corruption, and enforcing the law, in the path sought by the Yemeni people and alleviating their suffering.

For her part, the US diplomat affirmed her country's continued support for Yemen in all fields. She hoped that Yemen will reach a just and comprehensive peace and enjoy security and stability, reiterating her country's firm position in support of Yemen's unity, stability and territorial integrity.
