High Council of Energy approves practical measures to improve electricity

The High Council of Energy (HCE) has endorsed a number of practical measures to handle the electricity problems in Aden and the government-held governorates in its session held today, Tuesday, in the interim capital Aden presided over by Prime Minister Dr. Ma'een Abdulmalik.

The HCE approved the matrix of paths to reform the electricity sector and the measures taken in accordance with the controls and conditions in the budget support grant agreement provided by the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia based on the proposal of the Ministry of Electricity and Energy.

The matrix stressed that it is very necessary to improve the efficiency of the government power plants by switching from high-cost diesel fuel to less expensive fuel oil and to follow up the transfer, disposal of energy, the transmission lines and transformational stations in the governorate of Aden (al-Hiswa,al- Mansoura, Khormaksa).

The HCE approved to start technical and legal procedures for establishing a hybrid power plant in al-Mahra governorate with discharging the energy and start receiving the technical offers in accordance with the Tenders and Auctions Law.

The Council reviewed a report on the progress of the work on the solar energy project with a capacity of 120 megawatts in the interim capital Aden which provided by the brothers in the United Arab Emirates through the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar).

Minister of Electricity detailed the HCE on the memorandum of understanding concluded with the Egyptian Mathkour Company and the projects' proposals which include the establishment of a central power plant in Aden operates on oil fuel and gas.

The Council referred the memorandum to the Ministries of Legal Affairs, Finance and Electricity to study it.
